Self Care Tips you can use every day

Self-care should be a vital part of your well-being, looking after yourself helps you be there for your friends & family. This isn’t self-indulgence, it’s making sure you look after yourself so that you can be healthy and well to do your job, help others and deal with parts of our busy lives. 

January and the new year is a great way to get people thinking about self-care, but here at Scence we think it should be constantly factored into every month and a daily priority. Even if you manage just a one moment of self-care a day you’re acknowledging that your well-being is so very important. Anything can be a form of self-care with the right mindset; it’s about bringing attention back to yourself and making an activity into ‘me time’. 

Need some inspiration? Here’s some of our self-care ideas…

  1. Get moving in outside space – this doesn’t need to be a full on high-intensity workout each day, but getting at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise a day is really important for not just your physical health, but also your mental health. It could be a simple stroll on your lunch break or after work – getting outside at some point everyday has a huge benefit to relieving stress and resetting the mind.

2. Give your skin some love – we’re not talking salon-style facials here, something as simple as massaging our Perfect rose face balm into your skin can help relax both your mind and body. This nourishing vegan face balm will feel wonderfully soothing as it is absorbed into your skin – it’s super hydrating with rosehip oil, healing frankincense and soothing rose geranium essential oil. Packed with rich butters and oils it replenishes vitamins and will leave your face and neck feeling really cared for – this is such an easy daily dose of self-care.

3. Keep hydrated – Headache? Always Hungry? Skin problems? You could just be thirsty, drink some water! To help you on your hydrating journey, add some flair to your water, slice some pieces of fruit or a sprig of herbs (lemon, mint, basil, lime, orange or fennel) and have it in a reusable water bottle so you can easily access it throughout the day. Water never tasted so good!

4. Feed your body – food has the ability to create a better sense of balance in your life. This is reflected in how balanced and varied your nutrition is and how well your food is fuelling you. Invest in nutritious brain-boosting breakfast items to fuel your day and plan your weekly shop so you’re organised. 

Eat regularly to help stabilise your blood sugars (which in turn helps your mood!), and try to incorporate plenty of fruit and vegetables as they are a great source of vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants. Limit added sugars, but it’s ok if you really fancy that chocolate bar, balance is the key! Making sure you eat your dinner at the table at the end of each day rather than in front of the TV offers you a more mindful eating experience.

5. Create a wind down routine – our lives are so busy, many of us are guilty of doing jobs right up to bedtime, which is then too late! Being strict with your wind down time before bed is really important. Ban yourself from endlessly scrolling your Insta feed (we all do it!) and instead take a relaxing bath to not only soothe yourself physically, but also mentally.

After your bath give your body a treat with one of our vegan body balmsWarm the body balm on your skin for 2-3 seconds to melt and then glide to apply. Massage into all areas of your body (or ask a partner to help) and lie down and take deep breaths for a few minutes – this is the perfect daily wind down and leaves you ready to slip straight into bed. Try and stick to a regular time to go to sleep each night too.
